Today civil engineering is shaping our lives behind the scene through the amenities that we access and use. It is why our high-rise buildings, shopping complexes, roads, bridges, railways, airports, harbours and water resources are safe and easy to use. But civil engineering is not just about construction and infrastructure – it plays complex and indispensable role in environmental sustainability, renewable energy, nature conservation, tackling climate change and other such big challenges facing the human race. Civil engineers shape not just how we live today but also how we will live tomorrow. The scope of civil engineering is broadening each day. While on early days the focus was on construction and safety, it now encompasses planning, aesthetics, mental and physical well-being of people and harmony with nature among others..
