Every year we are witnesses of increasing pollution worldwide. Sad to say that majority of pollutants come from anthropogenic activity. Progress in science and technology has brought us many perfect things which prolonged our life and make it more comfortable. Thanks to discovery of antibiotics we can easier overcome many infections which were deadly in past. We have cars, planes and boats so we can travel around the world. Modern technology enables us to speak with our houses (smart buildings) and save money and time. Plastic bottles are easier than those from glass and cannot be broken. We can talk about many other achievements of modern time but we have forgotten about our environment. People are very selfish and did not keep in mind fate and impact on the environment. For example, we can look at the pharmaceuticals and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Antibiotics, antihypertensive, analgesics, antihistamines, hormones and many more help us every day to overwhelm many diseases and pain. Majority of these drugs are not fully degraded in our body and get into wastewater in form of stool or urine. Consequently, they flow into WWTP where they should be degraded. However, the problem is that WWTP technology is more than one-hundred-year-old so it is not able to eliminate the majority of new substances in wastewater...
